Rahul Dravid agrees to step in as India's head coach after Ravi Shastri

Dravid, Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, was in Dubai where he presented a presentation to the BCCI office on the appointment of new coaches to the NCA. (BCCI) has managed to convince Rahul Dravid to apply for the national team coach's post, which will remain vacant after the T20 World Cup.

Dravid, Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, was in Dubai where he presented a presentation to BCCI office officials - President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Arun Dhumal and co-secretary Jayesh George - on the appointment of new NCA coaches.

It is understandable that the BCCI has provided a clear picture of the current situation where they have not found the right person to take over as head coach of the Indian team. Many coaches have refused to be offered by the BCCI. The board wants Dravid to take over the job until 2023.

The BCCI initially wanted Dravid to step in as interim coach of the home series with New Zealand which would give them time to find a replacement for Ravi Shastri. Dravid is skeptical of going too far, that is inevitable with the role of coach, but BCCI is ready to compensate the former India captain.

Dravid is the best decision for the Indian team at the moment. He knows the players and plays an important role in building a system where players have had a smooth transition into a great team. The BCCI needs him right now and we have asked him to come in until 2023. The conversation was good and we hope to see him on the board when we advertise for a new coach, ”said a BCCI source.

Indian team coach Shastri and the support staff - including bowling coach Bharat Arun and inclusion coach R Sridhar - completed their work after the T20 World Cup. Even team coach Nick Webb has informed BCCI that he will not continue after the tournament.

If Dravid joins the board, the BCCI will give him the opportunity to select staff to support him. Dravid joined the BCCI in 2015 as a coach for the under-19 teams in India A and India. He was later appointed Head of Cricket at the NCA where he followed and oversaw the progress of future players called up to the big team at a time.

The younger players always praised Dravid for his contribution to secrecy. If he becomes India's head coach, Dravid will have to resign from the NCA and the BCCI will have to find a replacement in the coming days.
